PUBLIC NOTICE 

The Cabell County Board of Ballot Commissioners will

meet, for the purpose of reviewing and approving the

official 2008 Cabell County General Ballots, as set

forth below:

                        Date:    Monday, September 15, 2008

                        Time:    10:00 a.m.

                        Place:   Cabell County Clerk's Office

                                     Cabell County Courthouse - Suite 108

2008 GENERAL ELECTION

 

ABSENTEE VOTING

Absentee Voting by Mail:      Absentee ballot applications are being accepted

                                            now through October 29, 2008. Eligibility requirements

                                            voters to vote by absentee are prescribed by

                                            West Virginia Code 3-3-1.

 

Absentee ballot applications can be printed from the Secretary of State's website:

http://www.wvsos.com/ or call 526-8637 or 526-9816 for assistance.

                                                                                     Deadline for returning absentee ballots:

 

                                                                                     * Hand Delivered: Must be in the County Clerk's office by

                                                                                        the end of business day on November 3, 2008.

 

                                                                                      *Mailed: Must have an official U.S. Postmark dated no later than

                                                                                        election day and must be received by the start of the Canvass,

                                                                                        November 10, 2008.

 

                                                                                        *Military and Overseas: Not required to have an official postmark

                                                                                          but must be received by the start of the Canvass, November 10, 2008.

Emergency Absentee Voting:                 Emergency absentee voting period is October 28- November 4, 2008,

                                                                                                    until 12:00 noon.

 

                                                                                                    Only voters who are hospitalized during this period are eligible to

                                                                                                     vote an emergency absentee ballot.

             Election Officials training has been scheduled during the month

of October 2008:

              Huntington Mall Community Room

              October 8th  -  9:30 a.m.

                                            2:00 p.m.

                    October 9th  -  9:30 a.m. ( This day of training is for #1 Commissioners

                                            5:30 p.m.  ONLY)

                    October 10th - 9:30 a.m.

                                            2:00 p.m.

                    October 23rd - 9:30 a.m.

                                            5:30 p.m.

                    Board of Education - Cafeteria

                    October 14th  - 6:00 p.m. 

                    October 15th  - 6:00 p.m.

                    October 16th  - 6:00 p.m. ( This training is for #1 Commissioners ONLY)

                                                                            report)

Reports cannot be accepted prior to the first day of the filing period.

Reminder:  Failure to file or filing of an incomplete or inaccurate financial report can result in fines assessed by the

                Sample ballots are also available in the Cabell County Clerk's Office, Suite 108 of the Courthouse.

   

Precinct Location List:

 A list of all Cabell County precinct locations will appear in the Herald-Dispatch on Monday, November 3, 

 and in the Cabell Standard on Tuesday, November 4, 2008.

               

 

                If any voter is uncertain as to which precinct they are registered, contact the Voter

                Registration office at 304-526-8633.

 

PUBLIC TESTING OF VOTING EQUIPMENT   

    West Virginia election laws mandate public tests of all voting equipment used in the election process.

These tests are held in the office of the County Clerk, Suite 108, Courthouse. The dates and times are as follows:

                   Early Voting Public Test - October 8, 2008 10:00 a.m.

                   Election Day Public Test - October 28, 2008  10:00 a.m.

    The purpose of these tests is to ascertain that the voting terminals and the tabulation system is

accurately recording, storing and tabulating the ballots cast and the election results.

 

    This test is open to the public, candidates and their representatives.
